This started out as me trying to get some sort of David Gilmour guitarmony tones... kind of veered off somewhere along the line! I think it was his playing on Ringo's "Missouri Loves Company" that got this song going.
This one is about songwriting in general - no matter how obscure the stories get... it's all been done. I think that's why Paul says, in regards to writing silly love songs, "What's wrong with that?"
lyrics
Started from nothing, made my way to something
Danced with the devil and ended up with an angel
Faced an army and destroyed my confidence
Trusted a friend and he stole my conscience
But it's all been done
I've been wronged and have wronged others
I've asked for forgiveness and have forgiven
I've been on a wire begging for the light
As I have been in the fire longning for the night
