This one had beginnings as a Stevie Wonder-esque groove but it kind of got away from that as it was being recorded. I find this happens a lot - you hear a song and think "I want to write something like that!" but by the time you've finished it sounds nothing like you intended.
This is probably a good thing as it means that I haven't straight up stolen anything: enough of me is added to whatever it is that I'm doing that it at least sounds a little different.
I like this song a lot but I've always been worried about the lyrical content being seen in the wrong way - it's a tounge in cheek look at a particular person that I knew at university and was meant to exaggerate those issues. It's certainly not a commentary on women in general.
lyrics
She's a black hole looking to fill up her soul
She's always ready to say whatever it takes to win control
She'll look into your eyes and laugh at your jokes
She'll talk about your band and get along with your folks
She'll lean in close to tell you what's real
Threatening to take it away unless she sees you beg, borrow and steal
She'll take you upstairs promising countless nights
But you know she'll be gone as soon as you hit the lights
You think she's all yours, she thinks only of you
Until all your friends say they feel it too
She'll call you up in the middle of the night
Say she's thinking of you but you know that just can't be right
She must be still in disguise so don't meet up tonight
She's still in disguise just don't look in her eyes....
